Interested in bringing this course to your classroom?

This one-day course introduces students to the fundamentals of Artificial Intelligence and Blockchain. By the end of each session, students are able to engage in conversation about these technologies and their implementation in business practice.

Course Topics

Introduction to Blockchain (2.5 hours)

An overview of the technology of blockchain. Every piece of the technology is touched on briefly, from hashing to mining and each topic will be discussed in depth throughout the lesson.

A deep dive into why money has value and if cryptocurrency is money, looking specifically at Bitcoin.

An introduction to cryptography that explores asymmetric encryption, symmetric encryption, and hashing. The concept of public and private keys is introduced and a discussion is held regarding if regular encryption is enough.

How a digital signature is created and the difference between electronic signatures and digital signatures.

The security of blocks, how they are immutable, and how they are chained together.

An exercise putting it all together.

Examining the peer-2-peer network of blockchain.

How does blockchain embed trust into its system through consensus mechanisms? A deep dive into proof of work and proof of stake.

What is a smart contract and how are they being used in business today?

What is web 3.0? Why is it important? How is it going to change how the internet and data work?

What is an NFT? Exercise: Minting your own NFT

What are they and why do I need to know what they are?

What do people mean when they say blockchain is bad for the environment? What are potential solutions to its carbon footprint?

What are the pros and cons of cryptocurrencies? Is crypto the future of finance? Is a cryptocurrency that is issued by the central bank really a cryptocurrency?

Introduction to Artificial Intelligence (2-2.5 hours)

An exploration of what AI is and how we can create our own AI models.

Intro to supervised learning and examining what is a decision tree and how to construct them.

An intro to unsupervised learning, clustering and building a k-means clustering model.

An intro to deep learning, what neural networks are and where they are used.

Examining how computers can gain high-level understanding from digital images or videos.

How to program computers to process and analyze large amounts of natural language data. Performing a sensitivity analysis of Twitter data.

Identifying what problems AI solves and what problems it doesn’t.

The issues and concerns surrounding AI, including ethical considerations, bias, jobs, etc., and their impact on society.

All students will be given a 10-day window to take a Digital Leader Academy (DLA) certification exams for "Blockchain Fundamentals Professional Certificate."
