This instructor-led two day course introduces students to the fundamentals of blockchain.

Course Topics

Day One

An overview of the technology of blockchain. Every piece of the technology is touched on briefly, from hashing to mining and each topic will be discussed in depth throughout the workshop.

A deep dive into why money has value and if cryptocurrency is money, looking specifically at Bitcoin, Ethereum, and Cardano. Examing the different technical properties of each currency and their impact.

An introduction to cryptography that explores asymmetric encryption, symmetric encryption, and hashing. The concept of public and private keys is introduced and a discussion is held regarding if regular encryption is enough. Assessment of the future of encryption and how it will be impacted by technologies such as quantum computing.

How is a digital signature created and the difference between electronic signatures and digital signatures.

The security of blocks, how they are immutable, and how they are chained together. How transactions are stored in blocks.

Examining how blockchain is a peer-2-peer network and how this will integrate with supply chain networks and the IT systems of international companies.

How does blockchain embed trust into its system through consensus mechanisms and a deep dive into proof of work and proof of stake. How does the network select a miner to add the next block to a chain?

The idea that a blockchain can have decentralization, security, and speed all to varying degrees — but cannot achieve all three to an extent that is sufficient. How do we determine the network requirements of our use case and what blockchains meet these requirements?

What is a smart contract and how are they being used in business today? Create and execute their own smart contract.

How blockchain is being applied to the procurement process for supply chain and suppliers. What are the risks associated with the implementation of blockchain in supply chains?

Day Two

All students will be given a 10-day window to take a Digital Leader Academy (DLA) certification exams for "Blockchain Fundamentals Professional Certificate".
